How many leaves does a pot plant have

These range from red, blue, black and purple. Small pH differences at plant cellular levels can cause striking colour changes. You can see the colours in the stem, leaves, branches, buds, trichomes and occasionally the roots. Low temperatures in bloom encourages the formation of these colours. For cannabis connoisseurs, the presence of extra colour in your buds only increases the bag appeal. Some genetics are also prone to producing these colours, for example Auto Blackberry Kush seeds can produce phenotypes with very dark purple buds.

A lack of Phosphorus in bloom is also suspected to enhance colour production. Auto Blackberry Kush seeds. With genetics from Blueberry x Hash Plant, these autoflower seeds are easy to grow.

They take around weeks to grow from seed to harvest under 20 hours of daily light. Related: Auto Blackberry Kush grow review. Blueberry X Dark hash-plant. Order Now. Feminised Blueberry seeds. Though many phenotypes are green, you may be lucky enough to get a coloured phenotype.

Especially in cooler bloom conditions. Auto Blueberry is also available for lovers of high quality autoflower seeds. The great bag appeal combines with a satisfying and enjoyable high alongside heavy yields.

If the cannabis plant is short of essential nutrients or minerals you can often see the warning signs on the cannabis leaves themselves. Often the health and appearance of the leaves are one of the first signals from the plant that not all is well. Related: What is wrong with my cannabis plant? Cannabis pests and diseases. In the rush to chop, trim and harvest their buds, many growers simply discard the leaves.

After all, the blooms provide most of the eventual pleasure. But if you can be bothered with a little bit of extra work, you can easily turn your leaf trash into stash. Below are a few proven options:. All those small, resin soaked leaves are a rich source of resin. Once the leaves are dry they can be turned into kief simply by shaking the leaves above a fine screen which will allow the dry trichomes to pass through and be collected. Or you can make your own hash, e.

The sticks can then be wrapped in sticky fan leaves. Many thai sticks were brought home from the vietnam war by returning troops. Some people suggest that the remarkable potency of these legendary thai sticks was increased by the addition of opium. Once you have harvested and manicured your buds you can collect and dry the trim to produce rosin. Rosin is made by pressing two metal plates together. Often the metal plates are heated, to assist the process of squeezing out the oil.

Note that rosin that is pressed from trim won't reach the same quality level as rosin that is pressed from high quality buds. You can buy specialist rosin presses. Or you can use a pair of hair straighteners. Put your buds in some grease proof paper, heat up the hair straighteners and squeeze the buds hard for a minute. The cannabinoids and resin flow out from the bud onto the grease proof paper.

Your rosin extraction is complete, and you didn't use solvents to make your cannabis concentrate! Many people make cannabutter from their spare cannabis leaves. The butter dissolves all of the oily compounds and cannabinoids from the plant material. The mixture can be poured through a cheesecloth filter to remove insoluble plant matter. Once cool, place the pan in the fridge. The information contained in this site is provided for informational purposes only, and should not be construed as medical or legal advice.

They also provide a way for the plant to absorb nutrients foliar feeding. According to the standard phyllotaxy the arrangement of leaves on a plant stem , cannabis leaves are compound with multiple leaflets, as opposed to simple, where a single leaf grows from the stem and opposite decussate rather than alternate.

Opposite leaves emerge in pairs, one each side of the stem, with a clear vertical space between the leaf pairs. Decussate leaves are opposite, but each new leaf pair is at a right-angle to the last pair. Alternate leaves emerge from the stem singly, swapping sides as the vertical height increases.

Although cannabis leaves are usually decussate, as the plant prepares to flower the leaves may begin to emerge in an alternate pattern. Interestingly, rejuvenated cannabis plants demonstrate alternate phyllotaxy.

Experiments with hemp showed that early-planted specimens, which flowered in low light conditions but did not die, began to put out new alternate leaf growth when hours of sunlight increased. The initial new growth was simple rather than compound, and as new growth continued, the number of leaflets gradually increased.

There is some evidence that this phenomenon leads to vegetative growth of greatly increased vigour, although the genetic processes responsible are not fully understood. The leaves of cannabis plants can be very telling. Here are some tell-tale signs of a mishap in the making that can be seen by merely inspecting the leaves:. Putting aside the eccentricities of cannabis leaf growth for a moment, let us take a look at the differences between the three pure main subspecies of cannabis, which are:.

The colour of sativa leaves ranges from bright, lime green to blackish-green at the darkest. The largest leaves can often have up to thirteen leaflets. The largest leaves usually have fewer leaflets than the largest sativa leaves, with seven to nine leaflets.

Indica leaves are commonly deep olive-green; very light green leaves are rare and often a sign of deficiency. The largest leaves may contain anything from five to thirteen leaflets. Ruderalis leaves are usually closer to the indica in terms of width, although they can be much narrower than any indica leaf would normally be. The incredible variation in cannabis morphology throughout the world has led to some very unusual leaf patterns occasionally occurring.

Webbed leaves are a common mutation , and one which various breeders have attempted to stabilise. Such efforts have unfortunately not prevailed to the point where webbed varieties are now commercially available, though. In the past, however, it was possible to source webbed varieties such as Ducksfoot in seed form. Whorled phyllotaxy is another common mutation, although this is less desirable as a concealment trait as the plants still definitely resemble cannabis.

However, many growers find the trait desirable for cosmetic purposes, Some believe that such plants yield flowers of higher potency, although this has not been demonstrably proven. Australian Bastard Cannabis is perhaps the most striking mutation yet seen in cannabis.

It is believed that this mutation was first seen in escaped populations around Sydney. Breeders have also attempted to stabilise this trait … again, without commercial success. This mutation takes the form of hairless, succulent leaflets, usually with no more than five leaflets to a leaf.

The individual leaflets usually do not exceed a few centimetres in length. Despite the allure of cannabis that does not resemble cannabis, most attempts to breed viable strains using these genetics have ended in failure. Not unsurprisingly, the best results will usually be gained from healthy plants that exhibit normal characteristics. However, the success of breeding ruderalis genetics which are poor in cannabinoids with higher-potency varieties indicates that further research may yield improved results.

Enjoy a nice warm cup of cannabis tea! Simply boil some water, throw in a few tablespoons of fresh or dried leaves to a strainer and steep for about five minutes. The tea can be customized to cater toward flavour of choice with tea bags, honey or seasonings like cinnamon or ginger. Juicing is another option for using cannabis leaves and is believed to have many potential health benefits. When using fresh leaves not dried , there should not be any psychedelic effects, as it has not been decarboxylated.

Again, many flavours can be created depending on the recipe used. How about juicing them with apples, beets, celery, cucumber, lemons and ginger? If you are interested in making your own thai sticks , make sure to keep a few leaves, as you will need those to roll the sticks in.

The leaves can be dried and ground up to create a dry seasoning that can be added to anything you like, just as you would use parsley or oregano. On that note, the leaves could simply be tossed into a salad mix and eaten as is just as one might do with baby spinach leaves.

Very informative article. I have a question: if I use dried leaves for making cannabutter should there be any psychedelic or physical effects? Back then I used to just germinate random seeds found in different kinds of grass S. Strength varied but, in a good summer, I got decent yields of potent grass — particularly in a greenhouse! Are the modern varieties bred to just maximise the bud, in strength and yield, or are the leaves still worth smoking — or using for making hash?

Thanks for the great service btw — my seeds have arrived and I am really looking forward to getting back into growing again properly this time!

As far as my research and understanding goes cannabis plants mainly produce THC during flowering time and even then the largest trichome production proceeds in the flowers or buds. It tastes a lot better! I can personally recommend Sensi Amnesia from the Research project I recently tried that one and the potency and taste are overwhelmingly beautiful to say the least I only used standard vegetable soil and organic Guano fertilizer and a tiny grow closet so a greenhouse might get even more out of that plant.

This article on The endocannabinoid system and how it works may be of interest to you. Does anybody know what happens if you take either two of the opposing 2 leave shapes in a juvenile weed plant with four leaves and dis-guard them. I would of heard it through the grape vine. It may have been under our noses the whole time. Unfortunately, all that happens is that your plant did have four leaves, but now — thanks to the magic of your hands — only has two. The main stem, or stalk, of a cannabis plant grows straight up from the root system and supports all lateral branches.

The stem gives a plant structure and stability. Often, growers will top, or cut off, the stem after about five nodes, which forces the plant to grow out laterally more, creating more bud sites. Branches grow out of the main stem and support fan leaves and buds. Growers often train a cannabis plant by topping branches to create more bud sites. A node is a point at which a branch grows off of the main stem, or one branch from another branch. Fan leaves and buds can grow on some nodes, but not necessarily all.

When determining the sex of a cannabis plant, pre-flowers, or the beginnings of male and female sex organs, will appear at the nodes. Fan leaves are the large, iconic leaves of the cannabis plant.

They capture light for the plant and typically have little-to-no resin and are usually discarded when trimming. Sugar leaves are the small, resin-coated leaves that buds form around.

They contain the cannabinoids and terpenes that get you high or offer health benefits. Flowers only grow on female cannabis plants and must be dried before consumption. While smaller colas occur along the budding sites of lower branches, the main cola—sometimes called the apical bud—forms at the top of the plant.
